Rules & Regulations

Section 1: Cemetery lots and burial spaces

Item 1: The Secretary or administrative agent will issue the final deeds and paperwork for the lot(s)/ burial spaces sold. Price of the lots/burial spaces to be determined by the Cemetery Board. Price of opening and closing graves to be determined by the Cemetery Board.

Graves must be paid in full before any burials can be made.

Item 2: In a lot no more than two (2) urns of ashes may be placed on one grave.

Item 3: Special graves for ashes are on the north side of Section D starting at the west end of the north side and will start at the end of the driveway, that being Lot No. 0 with five (5) graves on it and four (4) on the rest measuring 15 inches from north line of cemetery, then bury ashes on the next three (3) feet. Flat markers only to be placed on the south side of ashes. No additional sites are available in this area.

Item 4: The burial of animals (pets) of any kind is prohibited in the Greentown Cemetery.

Item 5: The Greentown Cemetery Association Inc. shall take reasonable precautions to protect plot owners, within the Cemetery, from loss or damage, but distinctly disclaims all responsibility for loss or damages from causes beyond its reasonable control, and, especially from damage caused by the elements, act of God, common enemy, thieves, vandals, strikers, malicious mischief makers, explosions, unavoidable accidents, invasions, insurrections, riots, or order of any military or civil authority, whether the damage be direct or collateral, other than herein provided.

Item 6: The Cemetery shall have the right to correct any errors that may be made in making internments, disinterment's or removals, or the description, transfer or conveyance of any interment property, either by canceling such conveyance or substituting any conveying in lieu thereof other interment property of equal value and similar location as far as possible, or as may be selected by the Board, or in the sole discretion of the Board by refunding the amount of money paid on account of said purchase. In the event such an error shall involve the interment of the remains of any person in such property, the Cemetery reserves, and shall have the right to remove or transfer such remains of interred to such property of equal value and similar location as may be substituted and conveyed in lieu thereof. All disinterment or disinterment’s shall comply with cemetery rules and regulations and Ohio State law.

Item 7: Removals or transfers will not be made without a signed order from the owner of the lot or grave, or the next of kin and the approval of the Greentown Cemetery Board.

Item 8: Vaults are required to be used for all internments.

Section 2: Transfer of Lots

Item 1: No owner or proprietor of any lot or lots located in the Greentown Cemetery, or the representative of such an owner or proprietor shall sell, transfer and/or convey any interest in such lot or lots or single graves for any consideration without first notifying the Greentown Cemetery Association, Inc. Board and completing the proper forms. If approved by the board, the transfer or conveyance of said lot or lots, or single grave or graves may be made to any third party provided always that the new owner shall remain expressly subject to the bylaws and rules and regulations of the Association now and hereafter in force and to the provisions of the Statutes of the State of Ohio now and hereafter in force. An administrative fee may be charged for processing the transfer of lots at the discretion of the board.

Section 3: Plantings and foundations

Item 1: Plants/flowers must be planted at ground level directly in front of the headstone, not to exceed twelve (12) inched in growth from headstone. These plants are to be maintained by the family. THERE SHALL BE NO PLANTINGS TO THE SIDE OR BACK OF THE HEADSTONE.

Item 2: Flowers, wreaths, and other decorations left on lots will be removed by Cemetery staff as soon as possible if they become faded or unsightly. Holiday decorations must be removed within two (2) months after any given holiday. The Cemetery reserves the right to remove any plantings or other articles that become unsightly, are planted incorrectly, or are infringing on any adjoining lot or obstructing the operation of the Cemetery. No trees, shrubs, evergreens or permanent plantings of any kind are to be planted, effective as of the amendment date of (9/9/2014). Any existing plants/shrubs (planted before this amendment date 9/9/2014) and not properly maintained by the family may be taken out if deemed unsightly by the Cemetery Board. Window boxes, tubs, urns and other similar containers kill the grass and will not be allowed after June 15 or Father's Day. These containers, too, must be within the limits of planting as in Article V, item 1 (see above). No concrete, brick, plastic, wood, rubber, metal or other artificial edging will be allowed around any flower beds on cemetery lots. No white marble, granite chips or other rock materials will be allowed in flower beds. Only bark mulch or wood chips are permitted. Cemetery Board reserves the right to plant any trees that they feel will enhance the aesthetics of the cemetery. Cemetery Board is not responsible for lost or stolen items or damage to mementos of remembrance.
