About
Our History
In our town’s 210-year history, founded in 1816, the cemetery has been the principle burial ground for local residents. Many of the original cemetery’s markers have been lost to history due to time, weathering, and vandalism. The cemetery was officially incorporated with the state on September 14, 1895, and has been expanded several times over the years by land donations and real estate acquisitions. That said, there is ample space for many future burials.
A walk through the cemetery reveals names like Wise, Miller, Dickerhoof, Aultman, and Ream, which are some of the notable founding families in our community.
Our Leadership
The Greentown Cemetery Association is a private non-profit organization led by a board of seven volunteer trustees compromised of members who are deed owners in the cemetery. Of this group, a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer are elected for three-year terms.
The cemetery employs a sexton, who is responsible for grounds keeping, coordinating burials and assisting with funeral operations. We sub-contract with an excavator for the digging of graves and foundations for head stones.
Additionally, a lot sales representative is available for purchases and to provide general information.
